Sophia Best Bitch, HVC Show 2009

We are dedicated to breeding quality Hungarian Vizslas, we have owned the breed for 19 years. Catherine judges and awards CC's in this lovely breed.

Catherine is the Show Secretary for the Hungarian Vizsla Society for the past 4 years.
We own 2 Show Champion Vizslas and 6 others who have their stud book numbers, (which means they are qualified for Crufts for life). We are not a kennels or a large scale breeder, we plan our litters carefully and have less than 1 litter in any one year, we aim to produce quality puppies. This can be seen to be the case in the puppy we kept back from Ambers first litter in 2006. Sophia (or Ilexwood Sapphire JW), won Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts 2007, she has also won her Junior warrant at only 14 months old (this gives her a lifetime qualification for Crufts). Sophia also won Best Bitch and BOS at the HVC Show on the 30/03/08, Now it is Ilexwood Caribbean Coral and Ilexwood Caribbean Chaos who are winning, Coral and Bailey are from Ambers second litter, Coral took BPIS at the HVS Open Show 2008. Bailey won his stud book number at 22 months. We feel our breeding program works!

My first Vizsla Hollie came to live with us in 1994, I had wanted my Affix to be Hollywood! But of course that was taken so I decided on Ilex (The botanical name for Holly) and Wood, as that produced Ilexwood Aka, Hollywood! We had booked Hollie 2 years before she was born, she was bred by Linda and Peter Upton (TRAGUS) from Luton. After winning her 4th CC we decided to breed our first litter from Ruby in 2001, but tragically at the cesarean birth the puppies were still born. This was a huge shock to us as Cath had bred Cocker Spaniels for 15 years with success and no problems. After another 4 years wait we bred our second litter born in April 2006 this was only my second litter in 16 years of owning this lovely breed. Ambers second litter (our 3rd litter) born in November 2007, We have puppies available sired by Bailey and also plan another litter in 2011, contact us for more details.

It was 1980 when I bought my first dog a golden Cocker Spaniel, I showed her successfully for a few years, I bred my first litter in 1983 and started showing her puppies to some good wins. Then in 1986 at Crufts, I spotted the beautiful Hungarian Vizsla, having made inquiries, I decided this was the breed for me. I met and spoke to Mrs Gay Gottlieb, Gay gave me lots of advice and help concerning the breed. It was 1994 when I was able to own (or more likely be owned by) a Vizsla and Hollie joined us at Ilexwood.
Jon and I live with three Hungarian Vizslak. We lost Hollie and Ruby within weeks of each other in April 2009. I also own Sh Ch Tragus Star Turn in partnership with Linda and Peter Upton, Tragus Firefly at Ilexwood (Riley) is owned in Partnership with Karen Witcombe.

L -R. Hollie (14yrs), Ruby (13yrs),Catherine, Darius (11yrs) Matthew, Domino (10yrs) and Jane.

Our English Setters are owned in partnership with brother and sister- in- law, Matt & Jane Gilchrist, the Setters live with Jane and Matthew but the showing and trimming is all done by Catherine. Tara has delighted us by winning 2 res CC's in 2006. We have no plans for any Setter puppies but can recommend a good breeder if you want to get in touch.
Please check out the links to our individual dogs own pages, they are all such characters.
